What role does neuropsychological testing play during recovery?
Neuropsychological evaluation, or NPE, gives us a detailed, objective look at how the brain is functioning across memory, attention, processing speed, and executive function. It goes well beyond asking someone how they feel.
This testing helps us:
- Establish a clear baseline of cognitive function early in recovery
- Track measurable changes over time, rather than relying on self-reported symptoms alone
- Identify specific deficits that might not be obvious in daily life but affect work or school performance
- Provide documentation that supports treatment planning, return-to-work decisions, and legal or workers' comp cases
For many of our patients, this is the piece that connects how they feel to what's measurably happening in their brain, which makes both clinical care and case documentation more precise.
