What is vertigo and how is it different from general dizziness?
Vertigo is a specific type of dizziness that feels like you or your surroundings are spinning or moving, even when you’re standing still. People often describe it as the room “tilting” or “whirling.”
General dizziness, on the other hand, is a broader term. It can include feelings like:
- Lightheadedness
- Unsteadiness
- Feeling faint
The key difference is motion perception. Vertigo involves a false sense of movement, often linked to the inner ear or brain’s balance system, while general dizziness may come from many different causes—including dehydration, blood pressure changes, or fatigue.
