Intention Tremor

Plain-English Definition: An intention tremor is shaking that becomes more noticeable when you try to do a precise movement, like touching your finger to a target. The tremor shows up most when you’re aiming for precision.


Why It Matters: It can interfere with handwriting, eating, buttoning clothes, and other fine-motor tasks.
What It Can Look Like:

  • Shaking increases as you get closer to a target

  • Difficulty with small, precise motions

 How Clinicians can check it: Finger-to-nose testing and observation during reaching

 Common Misunderstandings:

  • Different from a resting tremor (which happens when you’re still)
